Planned deployment of US luxury cruise ship to French Polynesia won't go ahead

The planned deployment of a US luxury cruise ship to French Polynesia next year won't go ahead.

The Prince Albert II was due to be in Tahiti from April but its US owners, Silversea Cruises, have abandoned the project.

The ship, which can accommodate 132 passengers, is to remain in the northern hemisphere.

The move is a blow to the territory's struggling tourism sector and comes despite efforts by the territory's president, Gaston Tong Sang, to secure the service.
