American Samoa's senior office fined for possession of prohibited weapon

American Samoa's former police captain Papalii Marion Fitisemanu has been fined 1,000 US dollars for possession of a prohibited weapon.

The sentence was handed down by the Chief Justice Michael Kruse.

Taking the stand, Papalii apologised and expressed remorse for his actions.

The weapon was in the defendant's possession for about a month before he turned it in to the police evidence room.
