American Samoa's Star Kist Samoa tells employees of job losses

The salaried employees of Star Kist Samoa who will be lose their jobs due to cost cutting measures by the canneries have been informed of their demise.

Two of the affected workers told KHJ News that they were told last week of the pending cuts.

Star Kist is eliminating 20 salaried positions and scrapping nearly all benefits for hourly workers.

The employees said they have been told they will be getting a redundancy package.

The men said their last day on the job would be December 31.

Hourly workers have expressed concern about the loss of pension benefits and paid vacation.
