Fiji's interim indigenous affairs minister has confirmed that the interim regime won't organise an election next year as promised earlier.

Ratu Epeli Nailatikau says the interim government is committed to its roadmap but needs everything to fall into place before there can be an election.

According to Fijilive, he says Australia and New Zealand should support continuing efforts in this direction.

Ratu Epeli says the interim government wants to make sure that Fiji is always on sound financial footing.

The international community has been urging Fiji to return to democratic rule by March - two years after the last military coup.
