The downturn in French Polynesia's tourist numbers continued in October, with arrivals dropping by 13 percent over the same month last year.

The latest statistics show that Tahiti and its islands have now seen 14 consecutive months of falling tourist numbers.

So far this year, visitor numbers have been nearly nine percent below the corresponding period last year.

The busiest month was July with nearly 20,000 visitors, but that figure was nine percent lower than in July 2007.
