American Samoa may change requirements so auditor post can be filled

The government in American Samoa is still unable to recruit a Territorial Auditor, a position which needs to be filled by a certified public accountant.

The Auditor post has been vacant since 2005 when George Webster was sacked by the Governor.

During the 2008 campaign, challengers in the gubernatorial race called for the hiring of an Auditor, adding this is an important position, given the government is designated as high risk by the US Federal Government.

The Togiola Administration says that it has been trying to hire an Auditor but is finding the legal requirements are too restrictive.

In his campaign message, Governor Togiola Tulafono said he would propose a bill to lower the requirements so the administration will have more chance of filling the post.
