Fiji'a attorney-general to face professional misconduct probe

11:05 am on 10 December 2008

Reports from Fiji say the interim Attorney-General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, will be investigated for professional misconduct.

The Fiji Times says the outcome of the probe will determine whether he should be disbarred from practising law.

Responding to a query from an official of the Fiji Islands Revenue and Customs Authority, the Fiji Law Society president Dorsami Naidu said they had already received complaints about Mr Sayed-Khaiyum.

He says the Society is in the process of appointing a committee to handle the matter.

The former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Ratu Rakuita Vakalalabure, was deregistered by the Law Society and disbarred for playing an advisory role to the perpetrators of the 2000 coup.
