Fiji public servants urged to plan better

2:16 pm on 10 December 2008

Fiji's senior public servants have been urged to show more urgency in getting things done, with figures showing a 26 per cent drop in the implementation of Government projects in the last five years.

Fiji's interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama claims that poor implementation is due to a lack of advance planning and preparedness on the part of the Government Ministries and Departments.

Fiji Live reports him as saying there seems to be a lack of urgency to get things done.

The Commodore says the annual project implementation rate has fallen from 96 per cent in 2003 to around 70 per cent in 2007.

He says he has been reliably informed that the rate is a reflection of poor project planning by ministries and departments.
