Fiji footballer excluded from Tahiti matches after being denied New Zealand transit visa

Fiji's under-20 football team's key central defender, Jone Nailogo, is to miss next week's Oceania World Cup play-offs in Tahiti because New Zealand has refused him a transit visa.

Nailogo wasn't granted a visa by New Zealand Immigration because his father is a military officer with the Fiji Army, a policy the government department instigated after Fiji's 2006 military coup.

Last week New Zealand Immigration relaxed its rules and allowed the other members of the Fiji under-20 Football team to pass through Auckland on their way to Tahiti.
