Fiji's SDL rejects Leweni claims about regime's achievements

Fiji's ousted SDL Party has rejected claims by the interim government that it has achieved a lot since it came to power following the 2006 military coup.

The SDL national director Peceli Kinivuwai has told Fijilive that comments by Major Neumi Leweni speak volumes of his inability to understand the economics of government.

According to Mr Kinivuwai, it is laughable to say that government has made considerable progress in consolidating public finances and arresting fiscal imbalance.

He says if the approval of 30 years of leave pay for the Military Commander is consolidating public finances, he wonders what amounts to corruption.

Mr Kinivuwai has also challenged the interim government to define what and how it has accounts for the mass leave payout given to Commodore Frank Bainimarama and his senior officers.
