American Samoans elect second female senator

A second female senator has been chosen to serve for the next four years in American Samoa.

High Chief Fonoti Tafaifa Aufata was chosen over the weekend as one of the two senators for Tuala-uta District.

Last week Pago Pago selected High Chief Asuega Faamamata as their first female senator.

The other seat for Tuala uta is being retained by incumbent senator Tuanaitau Tuia who at 88, is the longest serving member of the Legislature with more than 40 years as a representative and senator.

Tuanaitau is a former Speaker of the House.
