PCC criticises Australia's greenhouse gas cut decisions

The organisation, the Pacific Conference of Churches, is criticising the Australian government's decision to cut greenhouse gasses by only 5 to 15 percent by 2020.

The Rudd government has made the decision earlier this week.

Hundreds of protestors around Australia called for stronger action on global warming or risk the destruction of the Great Barrier Reef and other natural treasures.

The Fiji based organisation's General Secretary, Fe'iloakitau Kaho Tevi, shares that stance and says that move will be detrimental to the whole region.

"We felt that despite all the goodwill from Australia in providing millions and millions of dollars for adaptation and mitigation programmes, their national policies do not reflect the same intention, when they are providing us with those types of assistance."

Fe'iloakitau Kaho Tevi says they plan to lobby the Australian government, with support of their partner church in Australia, to implement the required 20 percent cut for developed countries.
