Fiji's Citizens Constitutional Forum, or CCF, backs the interim regime's efforts to change the electoral system ahead of a return to democracy.

Plans are afoot to discuss the regime's reform plans and to find a way to accommodate a new electoral system while upholding provisions of the constitution.

The CCF's executive director, the Reverend Akuila Yabaki, says while his organisation opposed the coup, it supports the interim regime's thrust for electoral change.

"Once we get rid of race-based voting you could say the enemy within is got rid of. This is not to say people won't vote along racial lines but to have a system that allows for race-based politics that should be outlawed in the 21st century."
