Fiji's Rewa Dairy Co-operative Limited plans to increase local milk supply by strengthening the farmers' capability.

Its Chief executive officer, Savenaca Seniloli, said they were urging dairy farmers to lift their effort and commitment in 2009 to ensure the support measures introduced and maintained for 2009 were put to good use.

The Fiji Times reports him saying on the importation side, even though Rewa Dairy is a small buyer in the world market, they hope to establish expanded supply arrangements to ensure minimal volatility in the dairy food supply chain.

He says the co-operative will work with farmers to ensure a better understanding and implementation of measures, in view of the Environmental and Food Safety Act coming into force.
