Fiji curfews continue amid floods in the west

4:07 pm on 12 January 2009

Fiji's Disaster Management Office says curfews have been imposed until further notice in several flood affected towns in Viti Levu's western division.

Its Director Joeli Cawaki says people are being urged to heed official advice in the interest of public safety.

He says as authorities are already stretched to full capacity, people are being asked to stay put for now, and restrict their movements.

"For the town of Nadi, Ba and Sigatoka, a curfew was instigated from 6pm to 6am in the morning."
