Tuna industry players from Palau are due to visit the Philippines this month in a bid to forge joint fishing venture agreements with Filipino tuna fishing companies.

The Philippine newspaper the Sun Star reports that Bayani Fredeluces, director of Socsksargen Federation of Fishing and Allied Industries, Inc., said about 5 to 10 local fishing companies have expressed an interest in meeting with the Palau businessmen.

Some local fishing companies were displaced by the non-renewal of the country's bilateral fishing access with Indonesia that lapsed two years ago.

The Philippines reportedly has plans to negotiate a joint fishing venture agreement with other Pacific islands, including Papua New Guinea.
