The American Samoa Democratic Party says its goal is to increase participation of young people in the party and politics in general.

The Super Tuesday primary last year was the first time in local history that a large contingent of young voters took part in the election of a presidential nominee.

The local Democratic Party chair, Fagafaga Daniel Langkilde, says it is developing a young democrats association and raising the profile of their party in the territory.

"We do have as one of our goals over the next four years, trying to get our young people more involved, trying to establish what's called the Young Democrats Organisation, which is also a national part of the democratic national committee and we're hoping we can do that with the local community college."
