The New Zealand prime minister, John Key, and his Solomon Islands counterpart, Dr Derek Sikua, have restated that the Pacific Islands Forum decision on Fiji has universal support.
Mr Key was responding to reports that Fiji's interim prime minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, likened the Forum's stance to an act of war.

"Mr Key says Fiji's reported reaction is a ridiculous statement as the forum members have a genuine interest to restore democracy to fiji. The fifteen members of the forum are now threatening Fiji with sanctions should it fail to produce an election plan by May the first. He says during the retreat in Port Moresby, he put the hard questions to Fiji's interim attorney general, Aiyaz Sayed Khayum, about his intentions. Mr Sayed-Khayum claimed that the probing was personal, but Mr Key says he was not overly aggressive."
