Fiji Rugby Union says sacking Waisale Serevi wasn't easy

Insubordination has cost Fiji sevens icon Waisale Serevi his job as the national coach.

The Fiji Rugby Union says they have unanimously resolved to terminate the services of Serevi, effective immediately.

The Union executive chairman Keni Dakuidreketi says Serevi has been repeatedly warned of his public outbursts against the FRU, and his wilful disregard of clear directives of the management and Board.

However, Dakuidreketi says it wasn't an easy decision.

"The Board felt that going foward that we were drifting apart and we need to make a decision and it was a tough decision indeed."

Iliesa Tanivula, who coached the Fiji Barbarians 7s team to the Uruguay 7s recently, has been appointed to replace Serevi.
