A 2 million US dollar deal has been signed for the construction of the remaining phase of the Daru barramundi hatchery project in Western province of Papua New Guinea.

The newspaper, the National, says The PNG Sustainable Development Program Ltd signed the contract with the Yatala Property Developers Ltd in Port Moresby last week.

In a statement, the company said the hatchery project would be one of the biggest modern facilities in the region.

It also involved the construction of laboratories, manager and staff houses, additional road works and related construction jobs.

Mr Sode said since the project was worth nearly 7 million dollars, it would be an important investment in the province.
