Fiji may miss out on British military recruitment drive

Fiji citizens are at risk of missing out on opportunities with the British Army if the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group agrees on stronger action against the interim regime in its upcoming meeting.

The group is due to meet in four weeks to discuss Fiji missing a two-year deadline to return to democracy.

The Fiji Times reports the British High Commission's Political and Communication Adviser, Vineeta Nand, has confirmed that a possible reason for deferment of the British Army's overseas pre-selection team's visit to Fiji is the upcoming meeting.

She says the possibility of sending a team either to Fiji, or elsewhere in the region, will be reconsidered after the Action Group meeting has taken place.

Ms Nand said the visit would have considered potential recruits from Fiji and other Pacific Islands.
