The Red Cross in Solomon Islands is surveying flooded areas of Guadalcanal and Savo Island so it can provide immediate relief for those most affected.

It is working alongside the National and Guadalcanal disaster offices to complete the findings.

Its deputy secretary general, Lori Matuke, says it has already provided

latrines and tarpaulins with funding from the British High Commission.

He says the survey is to ensure the worst affected areas receive immediate support.

"We're really trying to work out which communities which area are most affected that we can at least immediately support them but also at the same time we try to find out how many of the people are really been affected."
