Chiefs of the northern region of Malaita in Solomon Islands have been discussing land issues that could threaten proposed national developments earmarked in various areas of the region.

A chief of North Malaita, David Leliana, has told the Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation that ownership of the land being marked for projects has not been settled and the meeting was look at land boundaries for the areas concerned.

Mr Leliana says it is chiefs as resource owners who are responsible for addressing such issues in order to enable developments to open up with less dispute.

Mr Leliana says chiefs of the Northern region have felt left out of development plans and consultations on projects concerns.

He says they have a right to be involved and decide on which developments will benefit their communities and people.
