Samoa pensioners get an increase

11:36 am on 11 February 2009

Samoa's National Provident Fund or NPF has implemented a 7-percent increase to the monthly pension of retirees bringing the total to 55 US dollars per pensioner.

A statement from the Fund said it was able to make the increase because of an asset revaluation.

The NPF is encouraging current contributors to take the option of retiree pension instead of the popular option of full withdrawal by date of retirement.

Currently the retirement age for Samoa is 55, and the pension is issued at the age of 65.
