CNMI warned about fake bank notes

Police in the Northern Marianas are warning of a serious problem with counterfeit money circulating on Saipan.

The Crime Stoppers Programme coordinator, Jason Tarkong, says the fake bills are apparently being made by local drug traffickers.

Two U.S. Secret Service special agents have this week been conducting training to help people recognise the counterfeits.

Officer Tarkong says advances in computer technology have made it possible for the fake bills to be made on the island.

But he says they do have leads, with one suspect recently arrested, and more expected to be caught soon.
