The Council of Chiefs of the village of Fagaiofu, Falelatai in Samoa has given full backing to a multi million tala resort being developed by the Haleck family of American Samoa.

Avamua Dave Haleck told the newspaper, Savali, that the Falelatai Hotel, about half an hour west of Faleolo Airport will complement their 100 room hotel in Tafuna.

A paramount chief of the village, Afioga Tuimalealiifano Vaaletoa Sualauvi II, also a deputy head of state, said the project has received full support from the village.

Afioga Tuimalealiifano said he likes Avamua's plans to protect the environment.

He said Fagaiofu has a number of fresh water springs but also an abundance of pigeons, bats and other wildlife.

The village council has sent a decree to anyone whose land is affected to allow construction of a road to the hotel property.

Once the road is completed Avamua says architects and designers will be deployed to work on the design concept of the resort.
