American Samoa taxpayers qualify for new federal stimulus law

American Samoa taxpayers qualify under a provision of the new federal stimulus law but instead of a rebate like the last time, this time around it's a tax credit which applies to tax years 2009 and 2010.

The Making Work Pay credit is 6.2 percent of a taxpayer's earned income with a maximum credit of 800 dollars for a married couple filing a joint return and 400 dollars for other taxpayers, but it is phased out for higher income taxpayers.

American Samoa's Tax Office manager, Melvin Joseph, says local taxpayers will qualify for this new federal tax credit.
