Three Kiribati men have been rescued off reefs in Papua New Guinea after drifting for about five weeks.

The newspaper, The National, reports they were found near Malie Island in the Lihir Island group in New Ireland province.

The paper says they were all very weak.

The three left their village last month to go fishing and ran out of fuel.
