American Samoa's Governor, Togiola Tulafono, has asked the U.S. Commerce Department to give the territory a greater role in managing the Rose Atoll Marine National Monument.

The reserve was declared last year by former President George W. Bush.

The Governor says they want the new Secretary of Commerce to be aware the territory wants to be part of all discussions regarding management issues.
