Fiji NGO condemns attack on pro-democracy politician

8:02 pm on 16 March 2009

Fiji's Movement for Democracy NGO has strongly condemned a reported attack on the home of the pro-democracy politician, Attar Singh.

Mr Singh says he had rocks thrown at his house and cars at the weekend.

He is one of several people, including a lawyer, journalist, newspaper editor and trade unionist, to be subjected to violence and intimidation in Fiji recently after speaking out against the country's military regime.

The Movement's Deputy Chair, Emitai Boladuadua, says attacks on those opposing the current military junta are political intimidation and intolerable.
