Tonga links up with Cuba

Tonga is the latest to join the growing number of Pacific countries entering into bilateral co-operation with Cuba.

Cuba's ambassador in New Zealand José Luis Robaina García says that the King of Tonga has agreed to further the Kingdom's relationship with Cuba.

In recent weeks Cuba has opened diplomatic concurrencies in Fiji, Samoa and now in Tonga as part of its policy to broaden relations with countries in the Pacific region.

Possible areas for Cuba's assistance includes offering scholarships in a range of disciplines.

"The sense of this talk is about cooperation, cooperation in health, cooperation in education cooperation in sports we may be able to tutor. In all these aspects Cuba has some strong points. And maybe we can find some way for the promotion of some project."
