Concerns in Fiji over selection process for President's Dialogue Forum

A number of NGO's in Fiji are worried that their political neutrality might be affected by the selection process for the proposed President's Dialogue Forum.

Political leaders agreed that 15 NGO's could be represented at the President's Forum meeting.

Parties were each allowed to nominate NGOs to take part and the final selection will be made by the interim Prime Minister.

But a spokeswoman for the Women's Rights Movement, Virisila Buadromo, says there are worries the members of civil society might become politically tainted

"Having political parties nominate NGOs, for us we feel that if may create the perception that certain NGOs that are nominated by particular political parties are maybe aligned to them, it may create that impression, when the reality that the two organisations probably don't see eye to eye on a policy issue."
