Earthquake rocks Papua New Guinea

3:53 pm on 25 March 2009

Papua New Guinea's island province of East New Britain has been rocked by a 6.0 magnitude earthquake.

The quake struck this morning at a reported depth of 47 kilometres in PNG's north.

A worker at the Rabaul Hotel says it was a little earthquake and there's no damage that they could see.

The AAP newsagency says the Mt Tavurvur volcano, situated on what is known as the "Pacific rim of fire," last erupted in 1994 and destroyed two-thirds of Rabaul.
