Poverty greatest in Fiji in Northern Division

About 53 per cent of people who live in Fiji's in the Northern Division live in poverty; the highest incidence in the country.

Statistics released by the Bureau of Statistics at a stakeholders meeting on combating poverty in Labasa showed the division recorded the highest percentage of those in both the rural and urban area facing poverty.

The Fiji Times quotes the Director of the Poverty Monitoring Unit, Litia Mawi as saying the said the statistics were saddening as most could not even afford to put food on their table.
