PNG's only female MP might consider her future if other women not included in parliament

Papua New Guinea's Minister of Community Development, Dame Carol Kidu, says she will have to consider her political future if she is not joined in parliament by other female representatives.

A motion to create three non elected seats for women in PNG's parliament for three years was taken off the table after it ran into political opposition.

It is due to be introduced next session, but scheduled repairs to parliament house mean sittings may be delayed .

Dame Carol says on a purely personal basis, she needs more help in parliament with the issues affecting women:

"I want some women there to give me a hand, there's a huge amount of work. I've got so many things I'm running at present and gender is only one small part of the whole thing, so for me it's a huge disappointment. If we don't get it through in November then I'll reassess my political future, whether I want to go to 2012 or not."
