The Pacific Media Freedom Group says public awareness about the duty of journalists needs to be raised after media people covering court proceedings were attacked and threatened at Samoa's Supreme Court in Apia last week.

A photographer and camera man were chased from court up a flight of stairs to the Ministry of Justice office by people who were attending the court action of a Church Pastor facing charges of attempted rape.

Monica Miller, co-chairperson of the Pacific Media Freedom Group, says she thinks people become upset when respected community leaders are thrown in the spotlight in a negative way.
