4:14 pm on 2 April 2009

Today marks the second anniversary of the 2007 earthquake and tsunami that killed more than 50 people in Solomon Islands.

Thousands of the tsunami victims in Gizo are still sleeping in tents.

Oliver Zavo, the deputy premier of Western Province, says people will be marking the day with church services and laying wreaths.

He says there is still a lot to be done in the recovery effort.

"The recovery is progressing well, but too far behind. Most of our people are still living in tents. After two years. After the second anniversary, the Government should try its best, with the assistance of the aid donors on order to help out people."
