Six people killed in a cargo plane crash in Papua

11:03 am on 10 April 2009

Six people were killed when a cargo plane crashed in the highlands of Indonesia's eastern Papua province yesterday.

The Aviastar Mandiri plane was travelling from the provincial capital Jayapura to Wamena town when it crashed while attempting to land.

The airline says the plane had been carrying essential goods for sale in the town, which is largely cut off from the rest of the world.

An airline official says all six crew members on board died when the plane crashed into a mountain and exploded.

The cause of the crash is being investigated.
