Fiji's interim attorney general is urging the media to take a more collaborative approach to its dealings with the Government.

Emergency regulations in force have seen the government issue guidelines on what kinds of stories are allowed to be printed or broadcast.

Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says the media needs to focus on the positive.

"We're a developing country. We are not the same as New Zealand. We have various economic and infrastructural challenges that have been neglected for decades. And unfortunately have not necessarily been recognised or assisted in in a realistic manner by many of our development partners. That's what we are focussed on, and that's what we will focus on."
