Villagers in Fiji's North oppose plans by international developer

Villagers in Fiji's North have opposed plans by an international developer to build a resort at Naqere on Vanua Levu over fears they would lose their fishing ground.

The Fiji Times says villagers say plans by developers New World Group Fiji Limited to reclaim mangrove areas and the beachfront of the freehold property it owned would destroy the fishing grounds.

They say the people of Savudrodro and Yaroi depended on them.

The report says the villagers have not been consulted about the possible loss of their fishing ground once this project goes ahead.
