Fiji political party says foreign leaders have no choice

One of Fiji's small political parties says foreign leaders have no choice but to accept Fiji's interim Government, because it has been decreed by the President.

A spokesperson for the General Voters Party, which supports the interim regime, Fred Caine, says it will take at least three years to draft a new constitution for Fiji.

"And I hope these leaders see now, that everybody in Fiji has forgotten the past and they want to take Fiji forward. And that's the way to go. We want a new constitution. We requested the president to abrogate the constitution and set the time frame for elections to tell the United Nations and the Commonwealth. And I think now we should be one big happy family."

Fred Caine says foreign leaders need to guide Fiji like a big brother or sister, but not dictate to it.
