Fiji Reserve Bank gets new governor

2:02 pm on 15 April 2009

Fiji's interim attorney general says a new Reserve Bank governor has been appointed.

But Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says some of the other positions which need to be re-established after the abrogation of the constitution have been filled by those who held the posts before.

"We have a new governor of the Reserve Bank, which is Mr Sada Reddy who's been with the Reserve Bank now for close to three decades. And of course the Commissioner of Police, the Commissioner of Prisons, the Commander of the RFMF, the Solicitor General, the same persons who held these positions have been appointed under the decree."

Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says the court registry is operating as normal but cases will not be heard by the courts until new judges are appointed by the President.

He says a number of people have expressed interest in being appointed to the judiciary.
