7:39 am on 22 April 2009

Fiji's military government says it will not be pushed into holding elections before 2014.

The country's Permanent Secretary for Information has rejected a United Nations Security Council call for a return to democracy as soon as possible.

Major Neumi Leweni says the country will not be diverted from its plans for reform before polling takes place.

"The Fiji government has its plan already in place, that 2014 is the day or the year for the elections and that's been set."
