Taiwan President to visit Solomons in October

2:27 pm on 22 April 2009

Taiwan's President Ma Ying-jeou is to make his first substantive foreign trip by visiting Solomon Islands in October.

The Solomons ambassador in Taipei, Beraki Jino, has told the Taiwan Times President Ma will lead a delegation to the Taiwan-Pacific Allies Summit in Honiara on October the 20th.

President Ma has declared a diplomatic truce with China as part of efforts to prevent Beijing from seeking to woo more of Taiwan's allies.

Last year's summit was cancelled as President Ma courted China.

Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs says it will release a white paper next month on foreign aid, outlining the government's approach to professional and effective overseas assistance.
