10:21 am on 24 April 2009

In American Samoa, about 40 police officers, some of whom were armed, and 15 police cars descended on the village Petesa to execute a search warrant for two individuals believed to have shot at police over the weekend.

The police blocked off access at three sections of the road yesterday while they searched a two storey home.

Six people were taken into custody during the operation.

Two rifles and suspected drug paraphernalia, including scales, were found at the home.

One of those on the property had been identified by police as the one who shot at officers who were responding to a incident at the same house last Friday night.

Witnesses say they had never seen such a heavy presence of police.
