4:11 am on 27 April 2009

The Banaban community in Fiji's Rabi Island has a newly elected Council of Leaders who will serve a four-year term.

More than 2,000 islanders went to the polls last Thursday and Friday on Rabi Island.

Fiji's Sunday Sun says postal ballots were also collected in Suva, Labasa and Lautoka.

The election is a requirement under the Banaban Settlement and held every four years.

The settlers are originally from Kiribati.
