Mahendra Chaudhry says Fiji's priority is for roadmap showing path to democracy

Fiji's former Prime Minister, Mahendra Chaudhry, says the road map for the country's future is now uncertain.

Just over two weeks ago, the President abrogated the constitution and re-appointed Commodore Frank Bainimarama as caretaker Prime Minister.

Mr Chaudhry, who is the head of the Fiji Labour Party, says that move, after a Court of Appeal ruling that held the interim regime was illegal, was to be expected.

"I don't think the solution lies there. I think the solution lies in how do we go from here. Do we have a serious road map for return to democracy or not and that is what needs to be sorted out first. We had one, but that is now, of course, uncertain."
