Marshall Islands welcomes Taiwan's Foreign Minister

10:36 am on 30 April 2009

Taiwan's Foreign Minister, Francisco Ou, is expected to arrive in the Marshall Islands today, for a two-day visit to mark the country's 30th anniversary of constitutional government.

Taiwan is the second largest aid donor to the Marshall Islands after the United States.

Last week, Taiwan's Ambassador Bruce Linghu delivered a cheque to the Marshall Islands Foreign Minister John Silk for more than two million US dollars, which is Taiwan's quarterly development funding assistance.

In addition, the Taiwanese government operates and supports agriculture and aquaculture projects, funds a micro-loan scheme, stations health officials at the main hospital and sends two mobile medical teams annually.
