Solomons PM announces cabinet reshuffle

The Solomon Islands Prime Minister Dr Derek Sikua has announced a Cabinet reshuffle which he says is aimed at speeding up implementation of various government programmes.

Dr Sikua has removed two Ministers, Edward Huniehu and Toswell Kaua, for what he says are health reasons.

Pacnews reports that Manasseh Maelanga, the MP for East Malaita has been brought into Cabinet as Minister for Provincial Government and Institutional Strengthening, while Laurie Chan, the MP for West Guadalcanal becomes the new Minister for Justice and Legal Affairs.

Several other key ministries have been reshuffled with James Tora becoming the new Minister for Police, National Security and Correctional Services, replacing Samuel Manetoali who moves to Lands, Survey and Housing.

Martin Magga becomes Health Minister replacing Johnson Koli who moves to Women, Youth and Children's Affairs.

He replaced Peter Tom who is now Minister for Home Affairs, taking over from Mr Tora.

And David Pacha is the new minister for Mines, Energy and Rural Electrification.
