Fiji's Prime Minister to attend ACP meeting in Guyana

6:09 am on 18 May 2009

Fiji's Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama will attend the ACP Ministerial Conference on Sugar in Georgetown in Guyana later this month.

The Ministry of Information says the conference is significant because the ACP-EU Sugar Protocol comes to an end 30th September 2009.

The agreement has allowed Fiji to export sugar to the European Union on preferential terms for over 30 years.

The terms and conditions for a new sugar arrangement are currently being discussed with the European Commission at all ACP levels.

The Fijilive news site says the Prime Minister will also have the opportunity to update the conference participants on the political and economic developments in Fiji.
